Patreon Joins Tech Coalition to Protect Children Online
As the internet becomes more pervasive in our daily lives, it's become increasingly important to ensure that children are safe while they navigate the digital world. To this end, Patreon has officially joined the Tech Coalition, an alliance of global tech companies that are working together to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse online.
In a recent announcement, Patreon stated that they're always thinking about ways to grow their tools, policies, and processes to ensure that Patreon is a safe place for young creators. By joining the Tech Coalition, they'll be able to strengthen their approach to keeping minors safe through working groups, peer-to-peer mentoring, and resource sharing.
Patreon's work with the Tech Coalition is just the latest in a series of partnerships with world-class organizations that specialize in protecting children online. They've also been working with Thorn and The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC), whose research-driven expertise continues to mitigate risks and keep Patreon a safe place for children aged 13 and up.
For Patreon, ensuring the safety and privacy of young creators is of utmost importance. They constantly assess, prioritize, and mitigate the risks of harmful content to minors, and their Community Guidelines address the topic of Teen Safety and other types of content that impact teens, such as pornography, self-harm, dangerous organizations, harassment, bullying, and the promotion of drugs and paraphernalia. Patreon has zero tolerance for content that violates their policies.
In addition to their guidelines, Patreon also provides block and report tools for users who come across abuse, harmful, or toxic behavior of any kind. Users can also reach out to the support team or report a violation any time by sending a request.
Creators everywhere use Patreon to build sustainable businesses and connect with their communities online. With their partnership with the Tech Coalition, Patreon hopes to help creators do so in a way that's safer than ever before.
